An original antique double-hemispherical world map - showing California as an island & an early representation of Antarctica - was published by A. P. de la Croix in his 1705 edition of Algemeene Weereld-Beschryving, nae de Rechte Verdeeling der Landschappen. An uncommon map showing the coastline of Australia beginning to take shape as Nova Hollandia, and New Guinea is shown with an attachment to a large, amorphous landmass. Antarctica is named, and a large Ter. de Iesso is named off of the northwest coast of North America.

Original old colouring, the decorations around the map later coloured. Map of the World in a Polar projection. With engraved title, depiction of the sun, the moon and the clouds at the top and "... At the bottom are two scenes: on the right Adam is happily seated in the Garden of Eden, and on the left a dismal post-lapserian Adam and Eve are in a wetter and rougher land". With ornamental carouche with 2 cherubs, coat-of-arms (not filled out) and Valk's adrress. 41:54 cm (16 1/4 x 21 1/4 inch.).
Shirley, The Mapping of the World, Nr. 459: "Underneath Valck's imprint the erased signature of J. Blaeu can just be discerned, indicating, that this plate was prepared in the last years of Joan Blaeu's life, in 1672-73. ... Blaeu intended this special map for the Spanish edition of the Atlas Maior which was never completed". - Oxidation of the green colour in the map, a crack in it expertly restored.

Shirley 406: "Nicolaas Visscher's new world map in two hemispheres can be regerded as the master forerunner of a number of highly decorative Dutch world maps produced throughout the remainder of the century". - Some cracks around the centerfold, in margins, some of them affecting the picture, and some in oxidated green colour in the map, all expertly restored. Map is underlaid with Japan paper.
